Nothing Left To Prove

Image
There was a period of time after the accident when I felt the need to prove things to the world around me. I sought to establish my victory over all of the adversity and physical setbacks that I was facing. I worked hard to conquer the injuries from my motorcycle accident and always measured each day according to my progress. Unfortunately, I thought that I had to prove to the people around me that I was someone who had overcome the beating that I took with the accident, so I would talk to them about how well I was doing and how fit I had become. Over time, I learned something. What I learned was that I didn't need to prove anything. Not to anyone, and not to myself. I know who I am, what I'm capable of doing, and what it takes to find a sense of satisfaction within my own heart. I once felt that I needed to prove something, but I was wrong. The only thing that I need to prove involves the ability to live life with or without physical progress. I have moved forward with my life...

Past The Need

I once felt the need to prove certain things within the earlier years after the motorcycle accident. Whether to myself, someone else, or the world in general, yeah, the need to accomplish certain things sometimes lurked within the recesses of my mind. I once had a fairly subtle need to ride a motorcycle again. The truth is that I was never really a biker, but rather a guy who happened to ride a motorcycle. However, I sometimes felt as though I had to "overcome" my circumstances, losses, and life in general by actually riding again. I also once had a need to accomplish certain goals related to things such as manual labor, or things that I did without hindrance before the accident. I once had a need to reach degrees of progress in what my body could do, but it really didn't involve any true necessity toward advancing physically in my healing, per se. I think that instead it all related to advancing within my own mind the concept that I had the ability to overcome any harm t...

Philosophy 101

I am a believer in divine authority. I’m very much confident that every event in my life serves a purpose within the wisdom and ultimate design of God. Further, I concede that life’s events involve things that can be distinctly measured as being good or bad within a strictly human perspective. However, our lives are established for the glory of God, and personal comfort or gratification are simply added benefits, of sorts, within the human experience. It is because of my faith that I sometimes grow a bit ashamed of myself when I become frustrated or discouraged with the things that arise through the aftereffects of my accident injuries. I know better than to allow circumstances to guide my feelings and I should respond accordingly with a sense of peace and assurance. I fully recognize that the motorcycle accident that I was involved in, the one that damaged so much of my body and continues to cause so many problems for me, was ordained of God for a purpose. To state things very plainly...

At Ease...

I’ve spent the better part of the day getting things ready for tonight’s church worship service. I’m taking a little break now to type this post before I get back to the more important stuff. Today has been a little different from others. I’ve been experiencing pretty severe cramps/muscle pulls in my leg for the past few months. It happens sporadically and the pain always concentrates itself on the area below my knee, sometimes at the front of the ankle region and other times more down the length of my calf. It has continued to get progressively worse over time, and it always occurs when I’m lying in bed at night. I can usually get rid of the pain by getting up and walking a little, but not the past two times that it has occurred. The pain gets to where I cannot walk very well or even touch the affected area in any way, and I had an occurrence last night. Did I say night? More like morning, as in 4 a.m. I thought that it would go away with some movement, but it has persisted all day wi...
