Stop With The Testing Already!

I had the annual CT scan required to check the stent in my chest a few weeks ago. They called me a week later to let me know that there are no leaks and no movements involved with my stent and that my aorta won't be killing me this year (well, I added that last part). Yup, I am the poster child for stability when it comes to internal chest bleeding. I'll be back to the endocrinologist in a few weeks for blood work, an office visit, and a sonogram. It becomes a little frustrating as I continue to pay one copayment and deductible after another with all of the medical people involved with my healthcare. I sometimes feel as though I'm being taken advantage of by going through procedures and visits that cost the providers very little, but affect my personal budget in a big way. To be truthful, I'd drop every one of them if it wasn't for my desire to make my wife happy. She would freak out if I didn't continue to deal with all of the medical things that I've been ...

Still Healthy

This past week I had an appointment with my endocrinologist. He has my blood tested every three months and then has me sit in his examination room while he stares at his computer and comments on the results of the bloodwork. I grow tired of the routine, but it makes my wife happy because she's always concerned about my health as it relates to the aftereffects of the accident injuries. I think that diabetes is the most annoying and unpleasant result that was created by the accident. It controls so many aspects of my life that it's hard to keep track.  The blood test involves about thirty different things that include glucose, kidney function, heart health, and a bunch of things that have to be Googled in order to know what they are. I always have to donate between 5-6 vials of blood along with a container of urine. Yeah, fun stuff. This time around my numbers were particularly good and he told me that it was going to be a quick appointment because I'm a good patient. It'...

Is This So Wrong?

I have a CT scan done of my chest once a year. It's ordered by my cardiologist so that he can see if the stent in my aorta is either leaking or has moved. The stent was placed there because of a force of impact rupture that occurred during the motorcycle accident. I went for the scan this year after a bit of a struggle with my new insurance company, and I received a call from the cardiologist's office a few days later telling me that everything was peachy keen with my aorta. They usually schedule an appointment for me to see the doctor after the scan for the sake of an examination that includes an EKG but...they made no mention of an appointment, and here I am a couple of weeks later and they haven't called me.  I, uh, haven't called them yet and I'm pretty certain that it won't be happening. I hate going to doctor's appointments, and I'm thinking that I'd rather just skip this one. I've been told every year since the accident that I have a hea...

Quick Thought

So, it's officially summer and things are busy. I don't have to take care of my niece for several weeks during the summer and it allows for me the opportunity to do other things more freely. I've been going to appointments without having to set the times around her, and I've been able to get a lot of maintenance work done around the house and at the church property as well. It's been good to accomplish so many things, but it really takes a toll on my body parts. Some days it just feels as though my body is waiting to break down. The pain, the stiffness, and the fatigue are a constant reminder of the injuries sustained years ago in the motorcycle accident. Still, I'm getting a lot of things done this summer, and I look forward to the coming weeks. I just wonder sometimes if I'll ever stop feeling as though I'm fading away a little more each day.

I’ve been dealing with the different things needed of me by my doctors the past few weeks. These things involve tests and exams, but I’ll be done with it all in a couple of weeks. The appointments are running a little late this year in comparison to years past because of insurance issues and general miscommunication, but everything is back on track now and I should be done with this round of appointments by the middle of February. I complain about these obligations every year, but my rational mind understands the reasons that doctors demand that I go through these things regularly. I feel as though I’m healthier and in better shape than many people my age, but I know that something can go wrong with some of the things that my accident has left me with physically. Year after year every test proves that I’m very much healthy, but some of the lingering issues with my body cause my doctors to focus on the risks instead of the assurances. So… I’m healthy, but I’m at risk. I’m in a good plac...

Dullsville

I had an appointment today with a new surgeon concerning my latest hernia. I liked him and I’m certain that he will do a good job with the upcoming procedure. I was asked to bring a copy of the original medical records concerning the things done to me in the hospital five years ago. He kept reading through them during my visit and commented that I really shouldn’t have made it. I already knew this. He also asked me if I still ride. Yeah, that’s definitely a question that feels like it’s past its prime. I was then sent to a very nice lady in his office who sets up the surgery dates and any details necessary to get things ready. She had read through my medical records and commented that I shouldn’t have made it. I already knew this. Everything is lining up for a surgery toward the end of May, and I hope that on that day nobody feels compelled to tell me what I already know or ask me what I’ve already answered. It kind of grows a little tiresome.
