How Can This Be?

Today I went to the church property for a while in order to get a few things done. As I was trimming a couple of trees that were beginning to grow into the dumpster area, I realized that several of the branches were too high for me to reach. I then pushed the dumpster closer to them and used it to climb up on a wall that encloses the space. As I stood on the wall trimming a few branches I briefly considered the fact that I had just climbed onto a dumpster and then jumped onto a wall. I finished the work and climbed down without killing myself, so yay.  In contrast, I'm home now and ten minutes ago I limped when I first stood up because I had been sitting too long. I also had a hard time using my hand because I held my cellphone in one position too long while looking at some photos. I mean, really? I sometimes have a hard time believing the things that I go through. I'm Joe Athlete one minute, and Myron Invalid the next. None of it makes sense to me. I feel like an enigma wra...

I Guess I’ll See

Although I’m feeling relatively OK, the past few weeks have been a little less than ideal concerning the things related to my accident injuries. I’ve been sleepless and tired the past weeks, and some days I hit periods of time when it feels as though I’ve got nothing left to give. It’s not that I'm running out of gas, but rather that I feel as though the equipment has nothing left to give…as if the different parts are just too worn down. Then, a couple of weeks ago I had an appointment with a neurologist, having been referred to her by an orthopedic hand specialist a few weeks before. The neurologist said that she didn’t see anything significantly wrong with most of the nerves in my hand. Considering the degree of discomfort and pain that I experience daily with my hand, it was a little odd to hear that there’s not a lot wrong with it neurologically. The problem is that the orthopedic surgeon will be basing his ability to help me, in part, on her report. I have an appointment wit...

Defective

When I first started taking care of my niece (she was five weeks old then) my sister-in-law gave me a used car seat in order to help keep me mobile. I had to place it facing backward in the car, and getting the baby out of it was always a chore. There’s a button that you have to press in order to release the center clip that holds a couple of latches connected to the shoulder straps. It’s the first thing needed to be done in order to loosen a kid from the seat. The button never released the latches well and at times it seemed as though it wouldn’t release them at all. It was a problem that occurred every time that we went for a ride somewhere. I always assumed that it was just old and defective because of the age of the seat, but I tolerated it because I didn’t really leave the house with the baby often. I recently had to turn the seat around because my niece has gotten too tall to sit in the seat facing to the rear. When I first reached to loosen the center clip button with the seat f...
