Tick-tock

Hello. It's me again. Things here are going OK these days. My body is cooperating with everything that life demands of it lately. I'm getting things done around the house, the church property, and the homes of a relative or two in need of help with repairs. I still take care of my young niece during the workweek while her energy levels and consequent need to playplayplay continue to grow along with her body. All in all things are moving forward from day to day and I'm very much thankful for the freedom that I have to live my life and take part in all of the things that I do. With all of that said, I can feel that things continue to get worse with the body parts related to my accident injuries as time moves on. It's nothing really big, but rather it's just some subtle changes that are evolving over time. It's getting harder for me to walk after I've been sitting for too long a period of time, and it's becoming more difficult to walk without some type of s...

Sheesh!

I woke up this morning without the dynamic ability to walk normally or close my hand. It happens daily, but not to this extent. The problem with my knee lasted for roughly half an hour, while the issue with my hand persisted for well over an hour. I believe that it's due to some of the maintenance work that I've been doing all week. It included plumbing (toilet water tank repairs, water heater replacement, etc.) along with cleaning the church building and assembling an unusually heavy work desk for my wife. In the end I was able to clear the list of maintenance duties for the week, but I think that it has left me a little bit worn down physically. These types of things continue to take a toll on the parts of me that were damaged by the accident, but I can't really do anything about it, so I write about it here instead. It all seems a little self-serving and psycho at times to me, but life goes on.  The knee that was so heavily damaged in the motorcycle accident, along with ...

I’ve been pretty much tired since the accident seven years ago. Sleep deprivation and physical “whatever” has me tired all of the time. I haven’t slept in any way that can be considered as normal since my stay in the hospital so long ago. I slept like clockwork before the accident but now nothing about my sleep pattern is regular or even gratifying. I’m thinking of getting one of those tranquilizer rifles with the darts that can put down a lion. My wife will need to practice her aim. My body continues to function pretty well, all things considered, but my energy levels have never been the same since the injuries from the accident. I don’t really know what it is about my body that is doing this. Oddly, the fatigue occurs in different levels of intensity. I know a guy who placed things in a better perspective for me a few days ago. He said that a car is never the same after an accident. You can get it repaired, but there’s always a noise or a shake or a grind that remains and it serves...

I’ve been at it again. We’ve been doing some home improvement projects to get our house in better shape. I had to bring everything of this nature to an abrupt halt four years ago when I wrecked my bike and pretty much wrecked my body with it. My wife and I had plans, but they all fell by the wayside as we focused on getting my body to recover. We have started to get several projects going on the house, with some things handled by hired professionals and other things handled by me. I have spent the past week working on things such as the installation of an outside door with a new frame, tons of landscaping, installing outdoor lights, and a bunch of other things that I won’t bore you with. In the end, I’m just sort of wiped out physically. Between the repairs and running several errands, my body has been fighting back in a harsh way. My wife has wanted these things done, and I have a hard time saying “no”. I always feel that she should have better things in this world than a guy who just...

Never Judge A Book...

I have always been accustomed to being seen as a fairly fit and capable individual. I’m not an imposing figure in my physical appearance (at all) but I have always been seen as a guy who can work hard and get a job done. I have usually been a go-to guy for help with home repairs, moving days, and any projects that require a little knowledge and elbow grease.  Even beyond family and friends, employers have never accused me of being incapable or unwilling regarding physical work. All in all I can say with honesty that I have been a physically capable person throughout my life. I have never really lacked in energy or strength. One of the big differences after the motorcycle accident and the resulting injuries involves the way in which people see me now. I get the very strong impression that I’m now seen as being weak and fragile. Relatives who have asked me for help with things in the past never ask for help with projects around the home anymore. I know that they’ve needed help with t...

Over time I have been able to resume some of the physical work that I was accustomed to doing before the accident. When I first married over three decades ago I didn’t know a thing about home repairs or construction. I owned a few hand tools, but they all looked brand new because of a lack of use. While working my way through Bible College and living the married life I took a job that required me to learn different areas of work such as gas, electric, plumbing, and carpentry. I gradually started to work on projects around the house and became more knowledgeable in the do-it-yourself realm. I’ve also grown accustomed to working on our vehicles as long as the repair involves a simpler part out/ in process. The old saying “jack of all trades, master of none” pretty much applies to me. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and throughout my years in the ministry I have worked on many different maintenance projects at the church property.  This aspect of my life has changed since th...
