Still Healthy

Image
This past week I had an appointment with my endocrinologist. He has my blood tested every three months and then has me sit in his examination room while he stares at his computer and comments on the results of the bloodwork. I grow tired of the routine, but it makes my wife happy because she's always concerned about my health as it relates to the aftereffects of the accident injuries. I think that diabetes is the most annoying and unpleasant result that was created by the accident. It controls so many aspects of my life that it's hard to keep track.  The blood test involves about thirty different things that include glucose, kidney function, heart health, and a bunch of things that have to be Googled in order to know what they are. I always have to donate between 5-6 vials of blood along with a container of urine. Yeah, fun stuff. This time around my numbers were particularly good and he told me that it was going to be a quick appointment because I'm a good patient. It'...

I Feel Like Using British Slang!

Why, you may ask, do I feel like using British slang? Because my wife and daughter are presently binge-watching a TV show made in England and I’m in a good mood. I had a visit today with the endocrinologist. COVID-19 has really changed the way in which these visits are done. I had to sign a couple of forms confirming that I have been, am, and will always be germ and illness free. I had to have my temperature taken before they would allow me to sit in the waiting room. Everyone within the building was wearing a mask and gloves. I was eventually seated in the examination room, but in the farthest corner of the room, away from doctors and nurses alike. I felt as though I was in trouble and thought for sure that they would place an old-fashioned dunce cap on my head and make me clean a chalk board later. The doctor wouldn’t even physically touch me. The whole thing was a real freak show, but it made me laugh a little inside. Anyway, the point of this post is to report that my diabetes ...

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The Good So…I had an appointment with my endocrinologist yesterday morning. I had a blood test done last week and I received the results yesterday. All of my numbers are good. A1C, cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.; it’s all good. My current A1C is 5.7, which is a pretty snazzy number for a diabetic. I’ve worked really hard over the past couple of years with the whole diet and exercise thing, so yeah, felicitations are in order. My doctor said that he is switching me to a six month appointment plan instead of the four month schedule that I’ve been following for the past couple of years. His office involves a half hour drive one-way, so I’m really glad to have the appointment schedule changed. I’ll be saving on time, endless blood samples, gas money, and insurance deductibles…uh huh, celebration time. I really hate being diabetic, and it’s a drag that I got this disease because of damage done to my body in the accident. Still, good news is good news, right? The Bad I have very rece...
