Really?
I was channel surfing a few days ago on one of those evenings where there's nothing interesting on tv. I saw the movie "Monsters Inc. University" on the guide and decided to take a look. As I sat there watching, my wife and my daughter came into the room. I stated that I had never seen the movie, but they corrected me by telling me that we watched it for the sake of my niece on a Thanksgiving evening...the one before my motorcycle accident. I couldn't remember having watched it at all. Although I didn't particularly enjoy watching this film a few nights ago, (sequels are rarely worth the effort) I continued to watch the movie nonetheless. I couldn't remember one scene, one plot line, or one joke. It truly was as though I was watching it for the first time, and I was a little shocked as a result. I must admit that the reason that I continued to watch this film was my hope that a new memory of that night would be jarred from my mind. It wasn't.
You have to understand that I remember lines from shows and movies that I watched as a kid. I can recall things said and done from episodes of Gilligan's Island that I haven't seen since I was twelve years old. I can watch a film one time and remember everything about it. But the film that I watched thirteen years ago in a room full of family members within my own house, not at all. It made me feel really strange the other night watching that lame Disney-Pixar creation. I have known since I first became coherent after the accident that my memories of the day before the accident consisted of just a few three-second moments. It's just that I was a little shocked to have one of the events from that night staring into my blinded mind the other night. It hit too close to home concerning the degree of memory loss that was created by the accident.I honestly hate being reminded of the things that were robbed from me in such a stark and somewhat shocking way. The accident shouldn't own so much of me, you know? I think that perhaps it would have helped a little if the writers of that movie had done a better job with things like, say, plotline and script.
