The Unexpected

I just returned from a two week trip to Israel. My wife and I travelled with a tour group and we were able to see many of the places mentioned in the Bible, along with other cool places throughout Israel and also Jordan. It was very hot throughout and we did a lot of walking at each stop. How much walking you wonder? She logged our walking on her Apple Watch and we walked a total of over 74 miles. Yeah, you read that correctly. Seventy-four miles within a two week period, with very little flat land to enjoy. We seemed to always be going on an upward or downward slope, with a lot of stair steps at many of the different locations. It was a little gruelling, but we really did enjoy every bit of the trip.

I made it through feeling really well despite the usual pains, but during the second week I made the mistake of actually looking at the ankle on my "bad leg" from the accident. It had started to hurt at the ankle one afternoon and I checked on it when we returned to the hotel room in the evening. My ankle bones were not showing at all through the swollen flesh, and the rest of my foot was enormous. Additionally, my shin area was swollen to roughly twice the size of my other leg. My sneakers were rubbing my heal and ankle in such a way that made me deire to finish the remainder of the trip barefooted.

I thought that it would all go away fairly fast, but I've been home for three days now and I can't see much of a difference so far. I don't feel any significant pain, but in all fairness I haven't put shoes on my feet since two days ago. It would be really great if things began to get better soon. I would go ahead and take a picture of my leg to post it here, but why ruin your next meal or snack.

I guess that this is just the way that things will be with the aftereffects of my motorcycle accident injuries. My previously injured leg continues to act as though there's nothing previous about it. So...living with the accident injuries must mean that I'll live with the negative impacts of the injuries in one form or another forever. My wife and I both had a reallly great time in Israel, but perhaps I should consider vacationing on the couch next time.
