The Beat Goes On...
Yikes!
I had an appointment with my cardiologist today. I have to meet with him once a year to check on my heart health because of the stent in my aorta. The surgeon who actually performed the procedure after the accident moved his medical practice out of state a few months after I was released from the hospital. I was never coherent enough in the hospital to actually meet him there and I only met with him once after my time in the hospital. The cardiologist that I’ve been going to since then came highly recommended and I like him a lot. He’s a good physician and he is a very good communicator. I keep going back yearly because I’m told that the stent is close to my heart and it needs to be monitored for movement and leakage. Who knew that a trauma induced aortic rupture would cause so much trouble, right?
The doctor was completely happy with my health during the exam. My weight, EKG, blood pressure, and pulse were all very good. I would almost describe his reaction to it all as giddy. He listened to my heart through a stethoscope with a smile on his face. He told me that everything looks great, so I won’t have to bother with my heart for another year. I think that he was particularly happy because all of the patients that were in the waiting room today seemed very much frail. I was the youngest person there. It also doesn’t hurt that I try to eat healthy and I exercise with a good deal of regularity. In any case a happy cardiologist is a good thing.
I still have to go for a CT scan in the coming weeks. They take pictures of my torso in order to see if there is any problem with the stent. I always ask for a DVD copy of the results, but I really can’t tell what it is that I’m looking at when I pop it into my computer. Perhaps I’ll post a shot or two of it when the day comes. Any surgeons out there can post a response and warn me that I’m in big trouble.
