My Heart's Not In It

So…I received a call today from someone in my cardiologist’s office informing me that everything is A-OK with the stent in my aorta. The term she used was “no significant changes”.  That phrase threw me off a little, but my wife assures me that it’s a common way to speak within the medical and scientific communities. I don’t think that you can really use terms like that in the rest of the world with any rate of success.

“Hey, did my investment pay off well?”                                                                                                                                  “It’s doing great. There are no significant changes.”

“Do you love me?”                                                                                                                                                                  “My feelings for you are great. There are no significant changes.”

In any case I was told that I’m fine and that I should continue to take my medication for the coming year. I must admit that I’m often tempted to stop taking the medication and gauge the result for a couple of months. I really hate placing more chemicals inside of my body, along with the need to deal with the various side effects involved with every pill. I have learned to submit to the rules of the system because everything seems to be working for my benefit, but I still wonder at times if it’s really all that effective and necessary. I think it’s just my mind attempting to deny the circumstances related to the things that have happened to my body (and my life) as a result of the motorcycle accident. I get tired of it all at times, but in truth I’m thankful that things aren’t any worse and that my health is generally OK, with no significant changes, of course.
