Independence Lost
We are approaching the mid-term election primaries here in the U.S. I’m not registered to any political party so I only get to vote for nonpartisan candidates such as judges within any of the primary elections. I’ve voted in every election since I was 18 and I’ll be voting in this one, primaries and all. We have a funny (funny strange, not funny ha-ha) way of handling our freedom here in the U.S. concerning voting rights. The greater percentage of eligible voters in this country do not actually vote. However, if a law was passed that allowed for political offices to be filled in a way other than through a free election, the people of this nation would riot and demand that voting rights be restored. Still, they don’t actually use their constitutional right to vote as frequently as they should. I think that the basic mindset involves a desire to have the right to vote, and to also have the right to choose in how to actually exercise the right to vote. Again, funny “strange”.
I think that riding a motorcycle is the same way for me. I wasn’t really a “biker”, per se, but rather a guy who rode on a motorcycle for the sake of convenience. I have no great need to ever ride a bike again. But…it bothers me to some extent that the accident has in effect taken away from me the right to choose. A damaged body, a changed life, and a loss of choice. It’s kind of a drag, but ultimately “funny strange”.
